Minutes of the June 12, 2008 Meeting

Present:  Robert Lutts, Raymond Vaillancourt and Thaddeus Buczko

Robert Lutts called the meeting to order at 5:30 P.M.

Large grant proposals were heard from The Salem Mission, The Pantry, Catholic Charities, St. Vincent De Paul Society, and Salem State College.  Discussion was held with each organization with reference to their service for Salem residents and their projected needs for FY09.

The Salem Council on Aging submitted four statements for the Endicott Fund.
Raymond Vaillancourt made a motion to approve $198.97 from the Endicott Fund.
The motion was seconded by Thaddeus Buczko and voted unanimously.

The Salem Council on Aging submitted a request on behalf of an elderly Salem resident with asthma and sleep apnea for an air conditioner.  She lives on a very limited social security/SSI income and has no assets.  Thaddeus Buczko made a motion to approve $553.95 from the Endicott Fund for this expense.  The motion was seconded by Robert Lutts and voted unanimously.

The Salem Council on Aging submitted a request on behalf of a disabled, elderly Salem resident on very limited finances to purchase a new mattress to help her with her back problems.  Robert Lutts made a motion to approve $558.40 from the Endicott Fund for this expense.  The motion was seconded by Raymond Vaillancourt and voted unanimously.

Robert Lutts made a motion to approve the minutes of the May 8, 2008 meeting.
The motion was seconded by Raymond Vaillancourt and voted unanimously.

The Department of Open Space submitted requests for the following:
$4,968.17 – Meldon Fund for flowers, mulch and grass seed for the Memorial Day plantings, $175.00 – Peele Fund to repair a gate, $2,500.00 – Meldon Fund for repair greenhouse, $3,715.00 – Meldon Fund for pond treatment contract, and $1,957.00 – Meldon Fund for office carpet.   The Board reviewed the requests and tabled the expense for the carpet.  Raymond Vaillancourt made a motion to approve the Peele and Meldon expenses minus the carpet expense.  The motion was seconded by Robert Lutts and voted unanimously.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:40 P.M.
